The beetroot is part of the fox tail family and is related to the sugar beet and to chard. The beetroot already came to Central Europe with the Romans and has its roots in North Africa.
The beetroot has a lot to offer: She contains a lot of vitamins, minerals and precious plant substances. As well as vitamin A, C, B, folic acid, iodine, potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and a very high quantity of iron. However, that’s not all: The power tuber contains betaine, that reduces the risk factor homocysteine for heart diseases, anthocyanins, that has a cancer-protective affect and nitrate, that, inter alia, lowers blood pressure.
DID YOU ALREADY KNOW?
Actually there is nothing more to add… except that the beet has in German about 10 different names.
