Have you known turmeric so far only as a powder? Turmeric is also called yellow ginger, saffron root, goldenseal or curcuma. It is a plant species that belongs to the ginger family. Turmeric comes from South East Asia and feels most comfortable in the tropics. Externally the tuber resembles his brother, ginger, a lot but it is intensively yellow. The turmeric plant grows up to two meters high, has elongated leaves and its blossoms are pink.
