Originally the apple comes from mountainous regions in South West China. The apple got already cultivated from Greeks in Antiquity.

As well as the pear the apple is classified as a stone fruit and is related to roses. The range of the apples color is manifold: green, yellow, rosé up to red.
Austrian’s largest apple growing area is in Styria. Besides delicately-sour apples, there are wonderful sweet-fruity apples as well.


There is a wide range of nutrients in apples. They contain vitamin B, C, E and beta carotene, as well as potassium and phosphorus. 70% of these nutrients are in the peel!


The „big apple“ stands, like all of us know, for New York. In the 16th century Vienna was also called the „big apple“ – the name came from the Turks because of the golden sphere on top of the St. Stephen’s Cathedral.
